The Amenities Committee of the Telangana Legislature on Monday recommended steep hike in the salaries of legislators of both state Assembly and Legislative Council. At present, MLAs are drawing Rs 95,000 per month, excluding HRA (House Rent Allowance).

Hyderabad: The Amenities Committee of the Telangana Legislature on Monday recommended steep hike in the salaries of legislators of both state Assembly and Legislative Council. At present, MLAs are drawing Rs 95,000 per month, excluding HRA (House Rent Allowance).

The committee members suggested Rs 2 lakh to Rs 2.50 lakh salary per month to each legislator in view of the increased cost of living and maintenance of offices at the constituency headquarters and in the city.

Members from all parties said the present salary structure is ‘grossly inadequate’ to meet the actual expenses. Sources said the State government was examining the revision of pay structure of MLAs and MLCs after the increase of salaries in Delhi and Karnataka recently.
