​Khammam: The District Collector DS Lokesh Kumar on Tuesday assured that adequate funds have been allocated to ensure continuous supply of drinking water during this summer. He was speaking at a review meeting on the issues regarding water supply in the district. Stating that the state government had earmarked sufficient funds to quench the thirst of the people, he said that administration would provide Rs 4 lakh to each mandal in addition to the Rs 2 lakh that was already released.

Referring to the government’s assistance of Rs 17.80 core from the non CRF (Calamity Relief Fund) and Rs 32 crore from 14thFinance Commission funds meant to address drought, he said that at least Rs 11 crore will be spent on mitigating the drinking water scarcity. He warned the officials that the non CRF will be elapsed if not they are utilised within a fortnight.

He told the officials to address any complaint of drinking water within 24 hours. He instructed them to make all necessary arrangements to ensure continuous water supply during this summer. The responsibility lies with the mandal parishad development officers and the assistant engineers if there is any complaint of non-performance in ensuring drinking water supply. Collector also warned of stringent action against the officials if they misuse or divert the funds.
