Hyderabad: Urging citizens to conserve water and use it as precious commodity, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) on Tuesday appealed to its consumers to co-operate whenever there is delay in drinking water supply. Board managing director B Janardhan Reddy said the HMWS&SB had geared up to supply drinking water to all areas in the city.

The water board MD said, "Due to unavoidable circumstances, the HMWS&SB would also supply water in reverse direction which would result in a number of leakages from joints in the pipeline. Manjeera water pumped from Patancheru to Lingampally reservoirs would be pumped in reverse direction.

The PSC pipelines were joined with socket and spigot arrangement to allow water flow in one direction only, which would affect water supply in several areas in the city." Meanwhile, board officials celebrated World Water Day on Tuesday in a grand way by organising various programmes.

Speaking on the occasion, the MD stressed upon the need for conservation and effective utilization of water particularly in the wake of depleting groundwater levels and drying up of drinking water resources due to failure of monsoon. The HMWS&SB, Walk for Water and Samskriti, NGOs jointly organized the event of “human chain” near Vishweshwarayya Junction, Khairatabad and also took pledge for conserving water and using water wisely as part of World Water Day celebrations.
