The Telangana Assembly on Tuesday passed a Bill unanimously to effect the hike in salaries of the legislators. As per the recommendation of the Committee on Amenities of the Telangana Legislature the Telangana Payment of Salaries and Pensions and Removal of Disqualifications(Amendment) Bill-2016 was passed and the estimated hike is an expenditure of Rs. 42.67 crore per annum.

Legislature Affairs Minister Harish Rao who moved the Bill said that the hike is being implemented according to the requests made by MLAs and MLCs to the government in the past one-and-half year and added that the Bill is moved on the request of majority of the parties. Congress member Sampath Kumar pointed out that the hike is necessary for people like him who belong to a humble background and added that his party welcomed the bill.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao while stating that the estimated expenditure of Rs. 42 crores does not establish the perceptible percentage of the state budget which is more than Rs. One lakh crore, appealed the media to understand the prevailing situation.

KCR also noted that the legislators will have to attend meetings of the government, zilla parishad apart from looking into the number of visitors everyday and bear the costs involved in travelling within the constituency to the district head quarters and Hyderabad.
