Hyderabad: With the date of byelection to Palair Assembly constituency fast approaching, speculation is rife in political circles that some prominent leaders from T TDP would migrate to TRS soon. The names that are making rounds are that of TDP Telangana unit President L Ramana and party MLA G Venkata Veeraiah.

Telangana Telugu Desam Party President L Ramana and Sathupalli MLA Venkata Veeraiah are likely to quit the party ahead of Palair byelection

Both the leaders have, however, scotched the rumours and said that there was no question of their shifting loyalties to the ruling party.

In a statement, Ramana said that a section media and TRS leadership was resorting to mud-slinging on him by spreading rumours that he was quitting TDP.

He clarified that he would continue in the TDP and serve the party. He was not craving for posts and money, Ramana added. But TRS sources claimed that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and Industries minister K T Rama Rao held a meeting with these TDP leaders recently.

The TRS is planning to admit these two leaders ahead of the byelection scheduled to be held on May 16. Veeraaiah, who is elected from Sathupalli Assembly constituency, was close aide to Minister for Roads and Buildings Tummala Nageswara Rao, who is the TRS candidate in the by election.

Veeraiah is facing charges in connection with cash-for-vote scam that happened during the elections to the Legislative Council.

Sources said that KCR offered plum post to Ramana if the latter joined the TRS ahead of the election. Veeraiah has been given assurance that he would be given the TRS ticket in 2019 election, it is said.
