Lightning strikes Basara temple
The Rajagopuram (dome) of Gnana Saraswati temple located on the banks of Godavari River was hit by lightening on Wednesday. A part of the dome on the right side fell on the ground and some cracks developed on the structure of the Gopuram. Three of the statuettes also got uprooted and fell down.

According to EO Venkateshwarlu, no one was injured in the incident. Senior temple officials inspected the site and the temple executive officer said repairs would be taken up right away.
Temple priests who felt that the incident was a bad omen, immediately conducted ‘Purification ritual’ in the temple. MLA Vittal Reddy, temple chairman Sharad Pathak, EO Venkateswarlu and main priest Achari Sanjeev and others took part in the programme. Basara had witnessed gale and some rain today.
