The decision comes after a day-long workshop chaired by Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K Taraka Rama Rao at the Marri Channa Reddy Human Resources Development Institute (MCRHRD). He said a committee comprising of Chief Engineers would be constituted for the same. They would also decide further division of zones and units in GHMC. He emphasised that road maintenance works and sign boards would be maintained by the private firms for at least 10 years.

The State government would fund the private firms in order to take up the road laying works. The Minister further said the government would provide a unique code, road map and maintenance details of 9,100 km road network in the city to private firms prior to the project approval.

He also said the government would take up junction improvement programmes with free lefts and ‘U’ turns at 221 junctions by using the Hyderabad Traffic Integrated Management System (HTRIMS) and Integrated Traffic Management System (ITMS). KTR said he would hold a meeting with five departments for better coordination within a week.

The Minister also directed GHMC Mayor and corporators to set up water pumping machines in their respective circles in order to ensure that there was water stagnation. He said the government would constitute an innovation cell to study and implement various development activities, such as laying plastic roads in GHMC limits.

He said a Chief Information Officer would be appointed to enhance citizen services. KTR said work progress would be kept under public domain and citizens would be kept informed about the works being taken up in the next six months. He also asked officials to announce one year action plan immediately. He instructed GHMC officials to be on the field by 6 am.

The Minister said they would identify and use vacant lands in schools, government and private offices for parking after working hours. He said the sanitation vehicles aging more than 15 years would be phased out before August 15.

He asked the GHMC authorities to remove old garbage bins and install 600 new bins. He also directed GHMC officials to recruit staff to strengthen the organisation and stressed that the corporation would not chop trees near KBR Park, and instead translocate them.
