​Hyderabad: The Ministry of External Affairs has ranked Telangana as the fastest State to process passport applications in the country. Director General of Police Anurag Sharma would receive the honour from the MEA on June 24 at Delhi.

With a goal to take police administration closer to the people and make it people friendly, the State police have introduced ‘VERIFAST,’ an application to verify the veracity of the passport applications. With a record time of just four to five days, the police are verifying the passports and also acknowledging the public about the status of the application through an SMS.

Since the inception of the software in policing in 2015, as many as 3,93,356 passport applications were verified. Streamlining the Special Branch personnel those engaged in verification process with special in-house training and also with the third-party verification, the goal has been achieved by the police.

The MEA has invited DGP Anurag Sharma to receive the award in connection with the Passport Seva Divas on June 24, at Delhi where in passport officers from 37 regions in the country and other officials of MEA would attend the event.
