In a drastic change from the past, an increasing number of women are evincing interest to find a placement in police and excise departments shedding the old notion that these departments are a no-go areas for eves.

Residents of the town went nostalgic and said that the stadium had not witnessed such huge turnout of people like this even when the national games and sports tournaments were hosted at the venue.

The participants in the fitness training programmes have been working it out very hard with a focused approach and striving to better their performance with each day. They even have been availing trainer’s advice to better their timing.

After the fitness training, they sweat it out at libraries and coaching centres. The situation took a complete U-turn from the past when women dreaded to enter these departments.

With the changing times, the perspective of parents also has undergone a sea change and now they are encouraging women to take up employment in these departments. Moreover, 33 per cent quota for women in the department has boosted the morale of the women.

According to statistics, over 4.5 lakh students have been preparing for various competitive examinations, including sub-inspector, constable, excise and transport departments. Some of them are going to Hyderabad to avail better coaching facilities.

The number of persons preparing for groups and other examinations is 1.8 lakh and the number of those who are preparing for police and excise department jobs is put at 40,000.

Talking to The Hans India, Sankar of Kothagudem said that he was putting in at least 18 hours of hard work treating the recruitment to these many vacancies as once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Rama Rao of Gurralapadu of Khammam rural mandal told The Hans India that SI coaching programme was available here now, ruling out the need to go to Hyderabad to receive the coaching. He said he has been sweating it out for the test for the past three months.
