Nizamabad: Additional Secretary in the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) Smitha Sabharwal advised the officials concerned to take steps to protect the saplings planted under the Haritha Haram programme from withering away.

She toured the Kamareddy mandal on Tuesday along with Officer on Special Duty (CMO) Priyanka Verghese and District Collector Yogitha Rana and inspected the works relating to Haritha Haram programme at the Patharajampeta village and expressed her satisfaction over the progress of the works. She examined 12,000 saplings and the fencing arrangements made around them.

The Additional Secretary lauded the efforts of Patharajampeta village sarpanch Shaikh Ahmed for planting 47,000 plants more than the fixed target.

She said that the government would sanction 10,000 teak plants as bonus to encourage him for his commitment and these would be planted near the agricultural fields. However, these saplings have to be nurtured properly and places for planting the saplings next year have to be scouted from now onwards, she added.

District Collector Yogitha Rana explained to Smitha Sabharwal that the district administration has been making arrangements for the last two months for the successful implementation of the Haritha Haram programme.

She said that every mandal has been made into two clusters and entrusted to an MPDO and a Tahsildar for implementing the planting drive.

She said that the cluster officers would reach their respective gram panchayats one day in advance to make the necessary arrangement after holding discussions with the villagers and they would make a night halt there.

Collector Rana said that arrangements were made to plant 2.89 crore saplings in the rural areas. She said that surprise checks would be conducted on cluster officials to see whether they made the night halts or not. If they were found to be absent, action would be taken against them, she warned.

The Additional Secretary said that there should be proper coordination with the field level officials and the local people’s representatives for the successful implementation of the Haritha Haram programme.

Sabharwal also visited Rameshwarpalli and Kupriryal villages in Sadashivnagar mandal. She inspected the nurseries in Tirmanpalli village of Dichpalli mandal.

Later, inspecting the saplings which were planted on either side of the national highway at Tirmanpalli, Priyanka Verghese expressed her unhappiness with the Hairtha Haram works.

She pulled up the National Highways Organisation Team leader T Anandam and toll gate manager Srinivas. She said that the 16,000 saplings were not planted properly on either side of the road and told them to do it again.

District Joint Collector A Ravinder Reddy, DWMA project director Venkateshwarlu, DRDA project director Chandramohan Reddy, Kamareddy RDO Nagesh, DFO Jyothi and others were present.
