  • Mechanism will work with the help of satellite facility
  • It will help monitor amount of water drawn by the States
  • Will be installed at all water drawing points

Member secretary of the Board Sameer Chaturvedi held talks with engineers-in-chief of the two states at Jala Soudha, the head office of Telangana State irrigation department, here on Wednesday to resolve the issue of water sharing and projects management between the two States.

Stating that the new system would help officials monitor remotely the quantum of Krishna water utilised by the two States, the Board member said the mechanism would function with the help of satellite facility and would be installed at all important water drawing points.

Speaking to media after the meeting, Chaturvedi said the board members would conduct a survey before installing the equipment. Informing that the two States also responded positively over the introduction of the new system, Chaturvedi said the meeting, however, did not arrive at any decision on water sharing as the two States raised objections over the allocation of water between them.

Meanwhile, Telangana government rejected AP’s request to the release of water from Nagarjunasagar right canal to latter to meet the drinking water needs on the ground that the water levels in Sagar reservoir were at all time low.

Telangana Engineer-in-Chief C Muralidhar Rao informed the Board that 3 tmcft of water would be utilised from Sagar reservoir to meet drinking water requirements in Hyderabad over the next three months.

The allocated Krishna water would also be utilised for drinking water purpose from Nettempadu, Koilsagar and Bheema projects. As there was no unanimity from both the sides on water usage at the meeting, the Board official said he would hold secretary-level meeting soon to sort out the issue.
