Hyderabad: As a step towards optimum utilisatiotn of water resources in the State, the Telangana government has decided to exploit the advanced remote sensing technology developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) by entering into an MoU on August 6.

Perhaps, Telangana would be the first State entering in to such an agreement with the space agency. The agreement would be signed in the presence of State Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao and the ISRO Chairman Kiran Kumar.

In a meeting with the Minister, ISRO Scientific Secretary PG Diwakar explained that National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) would prepare data collected from satellites on availability of water in the reservoirs, canals, tanks and other water bodies from time to time.

The information would be transferred to TWRIS (Telangana Water Resources Information System) and update the same every fortnight. The information would help the government in proper utilisation of water resources.

Harish also requested the ISRO officials to furnish the details of water flow in the tanks revived under Mission Kakatiya recently. Marking of barrages, canals and dams would also be done to monitor flows constantly. State Special Chief Secretary (Irrigation) SK Joshi, CADA (Command Area Development Authority) Malsur and others were also present at the meeting.
