Hyderabad: Health Minister Dr Laxma Reddy has denied the death of 21 patients in the 1800-bed Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad on Saturday on account of power failure and appealed to people to not to give credence to such rumours.

Responding to reports which appeared in a section of the media on death of patients in Gandhi hospital, he said that generators were switched on immediately after power failure, but they had developed technical snags and described it as unfortunate.

It took some time to overcome the problems, he said while admitting that patients did indeed face some inconvenience because of it. However, he denied the death of any patient due to medical negligence or power failure.

Highlighting the services at Gandhi hospital, he said that it was not proper on the part of some persons to defame the State medical institutions at a time when measures were being taken to restoring people’s faith in them.
