Hyderabad: Stating that people were not living in the medieval era where decisions could be forced upon them, Telangana JAC Chairman M Kodandaram on Monday asserted that the JAC would not back off even if they were made to sit in police stations and jailed any number of times.

He was speaking at the book release function of JAC leader K Raghu, who scripted a book on ‘What is happening in the energy sector in Telangana?-An analysis of two years of developments” here at Basheerbagh Press Club.

Kodandaram said that the government should have policies that that were people-centric and suit the interests of Telangana. “The Seemandhra rulers’ style of governance, which was beneficial to realtors and contractors, will not benefit the people of Telangana,” he said.

He said that it was their responsibility to inform people what was happening in the government. “We will not back off even if we are made to sit in police stations and jailed any number of times,” the JAC Chairman said. He further said that there was no political motive behind their efforts.

He said that the main intention of JAC was to educate people on issues that concern them. He said that this was only a beginning and added that the JAC would bring out a report on irrigation and drinking water after making a detailed study.

On the Mallannasagar issue, Kodandaram said that the government has taken up land acquisition even before the design of the project was prepared. He said that the JAC entered the scene when local people raised their voice after authorities started terrorising them stating that the project would be constructed at any cost and their lands would be taken away forcibly by depositing the money in their respective bank accounts.
