New Delhi: Telangana Advocates Joint Action Committee, which held a dharna at Jantar Mantar here on Monday, secured the support of all political parties, including the Congress, the TRS and the BJP. The advocates have been demanding the division of the High Court. Both the TRS and the Congress leaders made a beeline to the venue to assure the agitating lawyers of their support for the bifurcation of the High Court.

TRS MPs Jitender Reddy, Vinod Kumar, Kavitha, Prof Sita Ram Naik, K Vishweshwar Reddy, B B Patil and G Nagesh assured the protesting lawyers that the State government was keen on forcing the division of the High Court at the earliest. In fact, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, who was recently here discussed the issue with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

KCR had explained to the Prime Minister the injustices heaped on the Telangana State legal fraternity owing to the delay in the bifurcation and how the division of the High Court was being stalled by vested interests. He had explained to the Prime Minister all the issues involved in it, including the injustice done in the appointment of judges contrary to the provision of the AP Reorganisation Act.

The TRS MPs said they were maintaining restraint in Parliament as the Prime Minister had given an assurance in favour of the early division of High Court. If the Centre failed to keep its word, then they would mount pressure in Parliament sessions too by stalling the business, they said, while addressing the lawyers.

The Congress high command on the other hand deputed its General Secretary and Telangana State incharge of the party Digvijay Singh keeping its word given to a delegation of its Telangana State Congress Committee the other day. He inaugurated the dharna and conveyed the message from Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi that the Congress party would stand by the advocates in their struggle for justice.

Addressing them, Singh said the Centre was betraying the people of Telangana by not effecting the division of the High Court due to pressure from vested interests.
