1 lakh Dalit dropouts to get help to turn grads

​Hyderabad: The State government would soon launch a programme for imparting higher education to one lakh Dalit youth who dropped out from schools and colleges. Telangana State Public service Commission (TSPSC) Chairman Prof Ghanta Chakrapani said here on Tuesday that the programme launched to commemorate the 125th birth anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar would facilitate one lakh Dalit dropouts to graduate from the open university.
Inaugurating the J-Hub, Journalism Industry Incubation Centre, at Osmania University, Prof Chakrapani said that the new State has to foster innovation, skills and education to prosper. He appreciated the initiative launched by the Department of Communication and Journalism of Osmania University. Such initiatives would help in enhancing job opportunities to the educated youth, he opined.
Presiding over the inaugural function, Prof S Ramachandram, Vice-Chancellor, Osmania University, said, “India enjoys the demographic dividend with more than 65 per cent of the population in the working age. But, only 10 per cent of its youth are skilled.
The situation is much worse in Telangana where it stands at only five per cent.” Prof E Suresh Kumar, Registrar, OU and Prof Naidu Ashok, Principal, University College of Arts and Social Sciences have also spoken on the occasion.
Earlier in his welcome address, Prof K Stevenson said that J Hub intends to impart industry fit skills to not just journalism students, but to the students from other streams who want to acquire the skills.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof K Nageshwar, Editor-in-chief, The Hans India and HMTV, said that the industry suffers due to dearth of talented professionals while a large number of the educated continue to remain unemployed.
Such initiatives would help in overcoming the unemployment problem, he added. Prof Balaswamy proposed the vote of thanks.
