Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Tuesday directed officials to ensure that the new districts come into being by Dasara festival this year after the completion of formalities. At a review meeting on the subject here, he asked the officials to release the draft notification on the new districts on August 22.
The Cabinet meeting and an all-party meeting are to be held before the notification is issued. The Chief Minister directed the officials to immediately prepare the guidelines on formation of new districts and evolve steps to overcome the zonal problems, a press release issued by the CMO stated.
KCR wanted officials to receive public objections and suggestions a month after the notification. He named a Cabinet sub-committee headed by Deputy Chief Minister Mahamood Ali to discuss the objections/suggestions to be received from the people's representatives, officials and other sections of people and to prepare a final report a fortnight after objections and suggestions are received.
The sub-committee comprises Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari, Ministers Eatala Rajender, Tummala Nageshwar Rao and Jupalli Krishna Rao. He asked the sub-committee to submit its report as early as possible.
The meeting discussed the exercise of setting up of new districts taken up under the leadership of Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma. It looked into the petitions received from people and the people's representatives from all angles and discussed keeping in view the population and geographical aspects of the proposed districts.
The Chief Minister told the officials that only aspects like public convenience, backwardness and geographical scenario and not political demands should be kept in mind for forming the new districts. He asked them to make the required arrangements like division of existing districts and new offices at a fast pace.
KCR sought a report from officials present at the meeting on aspects like how the official machinery should be in the new districts, the legal jurisdiction and the nature of the official set-up. Among those present were Ministers Rajender and Nageshwar Rao,
Mineral Development Corporation chairman Seri Subhash Reddy, Rajiv Sharma, Special Chief Secretaries Raymond Peter, Pradeep Chandra, S K Joshi, Secretaries Ramakrishna Rao (Finance) and Santosh Reddy (Law), Advocate-General Ramakrishna Reddy, CMO Chief Secretary C Narsing Rao.
