Directions on water users meets issued

​Hyderabad: Major Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao on Thursday directed officials and farmers not to waste even a single drop of water released for irrigation purposes.

Releasing guidelines on water users’ association meetings, he asked project engineers to pay heed to what the farmers had to say at the meetings and videograph the proceedings and report him about what transpired at the meetings.

He asked the engineers to involve farmers in distribution and management of irrigation water and told them to prepare plans to provide irrigation facilities even to the tail-end farmers.

To upgrade the operation and maintenance of projects, main canals, distributary canals, the farmers’ participation was crucial, the Minister felt and issued the directions.
