Hyderabad: MIM President and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Saturday welcomed the historic agreement between Telangana and Maharashtra. However, he asked Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to live up to his promise of providing water to one crore acres of land under irrigation, through various projects by 2019.

Speaking to the media at his party office in Darussalam, he said that construction of three barrages across River Godavari would ensure water supply to both irrigation and drinking purposes for seven northern districts of Telangana. He held that this agreement would ensure that 39 lakh acres of land get irrigation water under the projects envisaged by the State government, as the 250 tmc ft of water would be provided through Pranahita project alone.

“The three barrages would support projects including Sri Ram Sagar, Nizam Sagar, Lower Maner and Singur,” he said. While challenging the statements of Congress leaders, including TPCC chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy, Owaisi said that those who were speaking against the agreement were poor on technical knowledge.

He welcomed the statements of CLP leader K Jana Reddy, who ‘clarified’ that both the undivided AP and Maharashtra failed to reach agreement earlier. “The Congress has joined forces with TDP to indulge in cheap publicity, which would not benefit them,” he added.
