Book Fair draws huge response

Khammam: At a time when all the generations are in the clutches of smart phones and other electronic gadgets, the Hyderabad Book Fair appears to have struck a chord with the children and the youths here. Thanks to the efforts of the book fair management which made it possible by reaching out to the educational institutions.

The management, which believed that there is still a window open for them to rekindle the habit of book reading among the newer generations, has put in a lot of efforts to attract the children and youths, besides opening a book fair that boasts no less than 6,000 different books belonging to various genres.

The book fair set up at the TTD Kalyanamandapam has witnessed participation of 110 publishers, including those of top publishers like Emesco Books, Pallvai Publications, Nava Chetana and others.

As part of their effort to inculcate the habit of book reading among the children, the book fair management has also started conducting seminars, debates and literary competitions to drive them to the book fair.

Hyderabad Book Fair president and poet Juluri Gourishankar said that their aim is to reach out the readers living in remotest parts of the State. Despite the spread of technology, patronage to book reading is not diminished.

Albeit the younger generation is constantly glued to their smart phones, there is still a scope that we can make them switch to book reading, the traditional source of knowledge and wisdom, which serve as tools for self-evolution and improvement,” the Coordinator for the Khammam Chapter of the book fair and senior journo B Prasen told The Hans India.

From fiction to non-fiction, personality development to competitive studies and spiritual to children’s literature, the book fair has all varieties of books, he said, stating that fair will continue till September 12.
