Hyderabad: Reacting to the incident where the police had slapped bikers on Sunday, IT Minister K T Rama Rao expressed his dissatisfaction over the behaviour of the police and said such behaviour could not be called ‘friendly policing’.

On Sunday, Rama Rao received a tweet from a person, in which a link to YouTube video was provided, requesting the Minister to look into the matter.

The video shows an inspector using utterly abusive language against some bikers, who organised a rally without seeking permission from the concerned police officers.

The inspector, M Gangadhar, who had received complaint from residents of Manchal village about the nuisance created by a group of bikers, reached the spot along with his team and intercepted them. After stopping the bikers, the inspector abused the rally organiser and slapped him.

As many as 41 bike-riders and an organiser of a motorsport event were intercepted by the Rachakonda police on Sunday for conducting a bike rally on the outskirts of the city. The bikers were taken into custody and were let off later.

One of the bikers, who captured the video, posted in on Twitter. The Minister tagged Director General of Police Anurag Sharma, asking him to review the incident. “Kindly look into this. Manhandling and abusing go against our philosophy of friendly policing,” the Minister said.

Considering the seriousness of the incident, Rachakonda Police Commissioner ordered an internal enquiry and issued a charged memo to Gangadhar.

Speaking to The Hans India, Rachakonda Police Commissioner MM Bhagwat said, “We received information about the incident.

Disciplinary action will be taken against the inspector who was abusive towards the public. A charge memo has been issued to him in the matter.”

The organiser did not seek permission from the concerned police to take out a rally. A case was booked against the rally organizer Mazdayar under Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of IPC and Section 189 (racing and trials of speed) of MV Act, the commissioner said.
