The inflow of 4,500 cusecs of water was continuing to Musi Project and out flow was also 4,500 cusecs of water. In addition to this, 170 cusecs of water was being released to right canal and 300 cusecs to left bank canal from Musi Project to fill 42 tanks and to provide irrigation facility to the crops.

Nakrekal (Nalgonda): Four gates of Musi Project, the second largest irrigation project in the district, were lifted as the water level of the project touched 644.5 feet against the total capacity of 645 feet. The project is located near Bopparam village of Kethepally mandal in the district. Nakrekal MLA Vemula Veeresham and Superintendent Engineer (Irrigation) Dharma Naik lifted the project gates at 7.45 am. The four gates - no. 2, 4, 7 and 10 – were lifted up to 1.5 feet to release water from the project.

After formation of Telangana State, for the first time Musi Project received maximum level of water and gates were lifted. In August 2013, Musi Project gates were lifted. Again after three years, four gates were lifted on Saturday. 30,183 acres of ayacut benefiting Suryapet, Chivemla, Penpahad mandals under Left flank and Kethepally, Thipparthy, Vemulapally mandals under Right flank canal comes under the Project.

Speaking on the occasion, Vemula Veeresham said that surplus water in Musi Project will solve the drinking and irrigation water problem in the area. He reminded that the project is drinking water resource to Suryapet municipality. The groundwater level in the surrounding villages also will be improved with good water levels in the Project. Water would be released for crops in rabi season in time.

Due to replacement of old gates and repairing works, dead water storage was maintained in the project, which was severely affected the cultivation in 30,183 acres of ayacut. In all, 12 crust gates were replaced with new ones by spending RS 12 crore to cap the leakages. Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao also inspected the repairing works of Musi Project in July, 2015 and directed the officials to speed up the works as early as possible.
