Warangal: Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari has directed the officials to be on high alert in view of incessant rains that have been lashing out the district over the past few days.As the Met department forecast rains till September 27 following formation of a trough over Bay of Bengal that might turn into a low pressure area, the officials should be ready to address any emergency situations, he said.

He chaired a meeting with district officials at District Collectorate on Saturday to review the situation. He directed the District Collector V Karuna not to sanction leaves to officials and staff till normalcy was restored. Officials should be available to the people at field level, he said.

In Warangal city, Gopalapuram, China Waddepalli and others tanks were overflowing inundating the low lying areas. Water logging took place on Hunter road due to flood waters and the road should be cleared by pumping out the waters, Srihari suggested.

He further said: “As many as 15 relief camps have been set up under GWMC limits. There should be no compromise on quality of the food supplied to the evacuated persons.”Efforts should be taken to prevent water borne diseases and medical camps should be conducted in villages and in the city to distribute medicines to the affected people, he said.The Deputy Chief Minister told that about 66 tanks had developed leakages in the bund due to heavy rains. Sand bags should be kept ready to prevent possible breaches at the tanks, he advised.

A total of 28 roads of both the Panchayat Raj and Roads and Buildings departments were damaged in the district. GWMC Mayor N Narender said efforts were on to organise medical camps at 12 urban health centres in the city with the help of IMA and private doctors.

District Collector V Karuna said the reports on the losses occurred would be prepared soon after the rains stopped. City Police Commissioner G Sudheer Babu and Rural SP Ambar Kishor Jha stated that the police forces were directed to be alert and assist the Revenue personnel in helping the flood affected people.

Prepare Plans for Rabi’Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari has asked the officials to prepare plans for the Rabi crops as the district was assured of getting irrigation water. With the SRSP in Nizamabad receiving huge inflows, surplus water would be released into LMD, Karimnagar.

In view of water availability, the extent of Rabi crops would increase. Therefore, the Agriculture officials should make efforts to keep sufficient supply of seeds and fertilisers available to the farmers. The Electricity officials should repair damaged supply lines, he added.
