The colleges have to face legal issues and would be held responsible by parents, whenever casualties take place following ragging incidents. Therefore the colleges have to take up strict measures to prevent ragging on their campuses, the Commissioner stated.

Sudheer Babu informed that about 68 people died in 198 road accidents in the last eight months under the Commissionerate limits. Most of them were students and they had lost their precious lives as they were not wearing the helmets.

The college managements have to create awareness among students on the importance of wearing helmet. The city police registered about 13,786 cases and collected Rs 21 lakhs as fines for violating the traffic rules in the same period. Even the fines and cases have not deterred the students from violating the traffic rules.

The college managements should ensure every student, who comes to the college on bike, must wear helmet, he said. Referring to the recent death of five students in Dharmasagar reservoir, he asked the principals to caution the students against visiting such dangerous locations and entering the waters.

Responding on the issue, the college principals, who attended the meeting, asked the Commissioner to intensify patrolling on the routes of Hasanparthy and Bollikuna, where there were number of colleges.

Traffic constables have to be deployed at the colleges to implement the helmet rule. ACPs P Shoban Kumar, SM Surendranath, B Janardhan, S Mahender, K Eashwar Rao and others were present.
