Telangana\'s traditional \'Bathukamma\' festival got off to a grand start at the Telangana Bhavan here on Friday. A large number of Telangana families residing in New Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) and the neighbouring Ghaziabad (of UP) joined the festivities.

New Delhi: Telangana's traditional 'Bathukamma' festival got off to a grand start at the Telangana Bhavan here on Friday. A large number of Telangana families residing in New Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) and the neighbouring Ghaziabad (of UP) joined the festivities.

Women assembled from the morning itself to prepare 'Bathukammas’ - the floral arrangement offering tributes to Gods and Goddesses - and performed the dances. Union Minister Smriti Irani was the special guest. She carried the ‘Bathukamma’ on the head along with other women.

The flowers required like 'Gunugu, Thangedu, Chamanti, Banti, Gummad and Gaddi', etc, were procured from in and around Delhi, including the ridge area with the special permission from the Delhi government.

The surroundings of the Telangana Bhavan reverberated to the ‘Bathukamma’ tunes while women dressed in silks and finery and children in their ‘lehenga-cholis' introduced the quintessence of Telangana culture to the Delhiites and other northerners.

Telangana Finance Minister E Rajender, MP Rapolu Anand Bhaskar, special representatives of Telangana government Ramachandru Tejavat and S Venugopala Chari, TRS MP D Srinivas were present on the occasion. Telangana government hosted 'Telangana Ruchulu' - a dinner consisting typical Telangana and Dakhani dishes to the guests.The celebrations would continue on Saturday also.
