Mahbubnagar: Heavy rains and agitation over bifurcation of Mahbubnagar have hit the RTC hard during the past one month.

According to RTC authorities, the average occupancy rate which was 75 per cent has come down to 40 per cent during September. This is mainly due to heavy rains in Mahbubnagar and Hyderabad. The RTC has also been affected due to frequent agitations, sit-ins and road blockade campaign over division of the district.

The agitations have made more impact in southern part of the district, including Gadwal, Alampur, Manavapadu, Dharur, Gaddu and Ieja, demanding that Gadwal be carved out as a new district. Similarly the people in the regions of Atmakur, Amarchinta, CC Kunta are still holding road blockade and sit-ins campaigns daily against the government’s decision to merge their regions with the proposed Wanaparthy district.

The RTC runs more than 240 Express, luxury and non-stop buses from the district to Hyderabad and other places. From Mahbubnagar depot more than 46 non-stops buses are operated daily to Hyderabad.

Now just 25 buses are being operated a day. According Rajendra Prasad, CTM of Mahbubnagar, the revenue has fallen steeply from Rs 75-80 lakhs a day to just Rs 65 lakhs in September.
