“Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema together received 553.7 mm rainfall between June 1 to September 30, when the usual rainfall in the area is 504.3 mm. Telangana received 896.5 mm of rains against normal fall of 755.1 mm.

Overall, coastal Andhra saw 16 per cent above normal rains, Rayalaseema and Telangana 20 and 19 percent increase in rainfall,’” said Murali Krishna, scientific assistant, Hyderabad MET Centre. Five districts in AP, namely East Godavari, West Godavari, Guntur, Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram got an excess rainfall, while Nellore suffered a deficit.

All districts in Telangana received excess rainfall and Hyderabad, Karimnagar, Nalgonda, Nizamabad, Ganga Reddy and Warangal districts received more rains than the other districts. Though the southwest monsoon is expected to withdraw by September-end, it practically extends to mid-October at times. This year too, the monsoon is not completely withdrawn as yet.

``We are expecting the withdrawal in mid-October and at the same time we may get northeast monsoon ,” said YK Reddy, director of Hyderabad MET Centre. The monsoon has withdrawn from Uttarakhand, west of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, east of Uttar Pradesh, north of Madhya Pradesh, north of Gujarat and north of Arabian Sea.
