Hyderabad: Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao has claimed that the Telangana government was the first one to implement reservation in the appointment of market committee officer-bearers.Addressing the newly appointed marketyard committee chairmen and their deputies at a workshop here on Sunday, Rao said that the State government had initiated numerous steps to streamline and regulate the functioning of the market committees.

He said that the State government had established as many as 30 new marketyards and there were 10 more under the consideration of the government for the farmers’ benefit. He said that driers would be installed at Jangaon marketyard on a pilot basis to reduce the moisture content in paddy. He said that the schemes for farmers like Rythu Bandhu and Rythu Bheema Pathakam shows the seriousness of the State government towards their welfare.

Harish Rao said that the recent rains had filled majority of tanks in the State as a result of Mission Kakatiya works and expressed happiness that the Rabi crop would get sufficient water. “Through Mission Kakatiya, we were able to conserve every drop of rainwater in the State and this would solve the problem related to irrigation,” the Minister said.
