Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Controller of Explosives R Venugopal has appealed to the people of the State to celebrate the festival using authorised fireworks for their safety.
In a press release, he said that possession of illegal fireworks is a criminal act, and fireworks must be purchased from a licensed retail fireworks shop and people should report any information they come to know about the manufacture or sale of illegal fireworks at the nearest police station.
The possession and sale of imported fireworks was illegal and punishable, he said. Fireworks in India have been declared as restricted item in respect of import by Director General of Foreign Trade.
The manufacturing, possession, use, sale and the like of any fireworks containing sulphur or sulphurate in admixture with any chlorate is banned in the country.
