Hyderabad: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) State working president A Reventh Reddy demanded that Speaker S Madhusudhana Chary immediately fix a date for hearing the disqualifications petitions with regard to 12 MLAs which have been pending for long. All of them had left TDP and joined the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) after the elections.

In a letter to the Speaker on Thursday, Revanth Reddy reminded him that the High Court had given three-month time to dispose of the pending petitions of disqualification of MLAs who had joined the TRS. The time given by the High Court would end on December 12, he said.

Further, citing the judgment of the Supreme Court in Rajendra Singh Rana Vs Swami Prasad Maurya case in 2007, the TDP MLA said, “Deciding the question of merger without deciding the question of disqualification is illegal.”

Stressing on the duty and responsibility cast upon the Speakers under the Constitution of India, Reventh Reddy said the Speaker, under the Constitution, should act judiciously and was bound by rule of law, failing which the Speaker’s action would be viewed as interfering with the administration of justice.
