Hyderabad: Arogyasri Chief Executive Officer Dr M Chandrashekar has said that the Arogyasri health insurance scheme being implemented in Telangana has inspired the Centre’s soon-to-be launched the National Health Protection Scheme (NHPS).

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the NHPS in April next year. Talking to The Hans India on Tuesday, the CEO Chandrashekar said that since 2012 the government trust is implementing the scheme deviating from the earlier third-party health insurance scheme.

The scheme is still being implemented as the third-party health insurance scheme in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

The Arogyasri scheme benefits 82 per cent of the state’s population, approximately 2.80 crore. Central teams had visited the state at least three or four times to study the working of the scheme and gave full marks to the government trust’s functioning.

The Arogyasri teams had trained the National health protection scheme personnel, he said, adding that he was invited to a meeting held in Delhi on November 25 which took a crucial decision to co-brand the Arogyasri with the NHPS.

As a result of it, 1,000 more diseases would be covered in addition to the existing 945.
