Kurnool: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Monday inaugurated the Mucchumarri lift irrigation project with a resolve for equity in development to overcome regional imbalances in the state.
Even as his talk of development in Amaravati sowed the seeds of discontent in the Rayalaseema region, Chandrababu Naidu described the lift scheme as a lifeline for the backward parts of the Rayalaseema region.
The lift scheme at Mucchumarri in Pagidyala mandal of Kurnool district was designed to supply 5 tmfc ft of water from the foreshores of the Srisailam reservoir through the Srisailam Right Bank Canal for irrigation for 40,000 acres in the stretch between Nandikodkuru and Regada Gundur in the district. Water is to be lifted up to 790 ft from the KC canal through an approach canal.
Chandrababu Naidu described lift scheme as one of the largest schemes to irrigate 6,02,500 acres, if functional up to its designed capacity, by drawing Krishna water from Srisailam reservoir. In addition to this, it is expected to provide drinking water to 30 lakh people spread over 410 villages of the Rayalaseema region.
The CM said the lift scheme will change the very face of the water-starved landscape in Kurnool district. Making light of the claims of the YSRCP that it was the brainchild of former chief minister the late YS Rajasekhar Reddy, Chandrababu said translating the dream into a reality is more difficult than conceiving it.
Deputy Chief Minister KE Krishna Murthy and Anantapur MP JC Diwakar Reddy described Naidu as waterman of Rayalaseema region.
“Our leader is down-to-earth and will deliver what he will promise,” said Krishna Murthy. Diwakar Reddy utilised the opportunity to hit out at YSRCP president YS Jaganmohan Reddy depicting him as a `destructive force’. The efforts by Nandikotkur MLA Isaiah of the YSRCP to praise the virtues of his leader as if countering the diatribe by the TDP leaders met with strong disapproval from the ruling party supporters.
Later, the Chief Minister visited Tafakanapalli and inaugurated a project for a cow hostel. Four cow sheds have been proposed under the project with an estimate of Rs 4 crore.
Irrigation Minister Devineni Uma Maheshwar Rao, District Collector Ch Vijay Mohan, MLC Shilpa Mohan Reddy, AP Legislative Council Chairman Chakrapani, MLAs, Bhuma Nagi Reddy, Akhila Priys Reddy and SV Mohan Reddy, ZP Chairman M Raja Sekhar accompanied the CM during the visit.
