Even as the government has geared up to announce the new body of Wakf Board, some more organisations have decided to knock on the doors of High Court.
Hyderabad: Even as the government has geared up to announce the new body of Wakf Board, some more organisations have decided to knock on the doors of High Court.
The Deccan Wakf Protection Society, which has upped its ante against the apparent bid of the State Government to come up with a decision to announce Akbar Nizamuddin as the Chairman will be the next to approach the Court.
Speaking to The Hans India, president of Society, Osman Al Hajri said that norms are being flouted in leasing out the Wakf properties during the recent years and the Competent Authority has failed to control the trend.
He explained several properties were leased out without a tender mechanism. If the norms were followed and the highest bidder was selected it would have generated more revenue to Wakf. “If this is the situation, prior to constitution of a new Board, just think about the possibility of tainted men elected to highest post would do. Hence we have decided to knock the doors of the High Court so that the State government decides on someone honest as its Chairman,” said, Osman, who was the TDP's MLA candidate from Karwan constituency.
New political alignment on the issue After CPM challenging the election process in December, 2016, the CPI on Saturday questioned the rationale of alleged elevation of tainted Mutawalli, whose suspension was revoked prior to the election notification.
Former MP, Aziz Pasha cautioned that the government cannot appoint a man who is a ‘notorious’ land grabber. “Almost 80 % of the Wakf properties are under encroachment and if this kind of men are at the helm they would sell away the remaining 20 % within a year,” he warned.
The CPI’s affiliate Tanzeem-e-Insaaf has decided to take up the issue in a campaign mode. The group which already began dharna programmes in the City will be campaigning in all the districts of Telangana.
Earlier in December similar objections were raised by CPM where it has pointed out that the Election Notification violated several provisions of the Wakf Act 1995 and Election Rules 1996.
CPM City secretary M Srinivas found fault with the way Akbar Nizamuddin was reinstated as Mutawalli and ordering of Dev Novo enquiry, within 20 days prior to Election Notification in the month of December.
He felt that the decision amounts to playing fraud with the Wakf Act 1995, as different yard sticks were used against Mutawallis because of political affiliations, as another Mutawalli facing similar charges, Faisal Ali Shah remains suspended.
