Hyderabad: Intelligence wings of the two Telugu states have been put on high alert after Bangladesh has submitted a report to the Indian government stating that about 2,010 operatives of the Harkat-Ul-Jihadi Al-Islami (HUJI) and Jamaat-Ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) had entered India by end of 2016.

HUJI-Bangladesh had in the past declared that its aim was to create ‘Moghalisthan’, carved out of parts of India, Bangladesh and Nepal. And to achieve this, the terrorist outfit has been working in coordination with Pakistan’s ISI, according to Indian intelligence agencies.

HUJI has planted illegal Bangladeshi immigrants across India, who work for the terror outfit in the garb of preachers, maidservants, traders in leather. Besides, illegal Bangladeshi immigrants are also engaged in running prostitution rings, smuggling of cattle and circulation of fake Indian currency notes printed in Pakistan, a senior IPS officer associated with counter terror operations, told The Hans India.

Over 10,000 illegal immigrants from Bangladesh are living in and around Hyderabad. There have been instances where dozens of such immigrants were caught circulating fake Indian currency printed in Pakistan. Some gangs running prostitution rings were also nabbed in the past, an intelligence official said.

The police official said that illegal immigrants were found in huge numbers in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh, particularly around Sriharikota. Though these illegal immigrants look like normal folks, some of them do the intelligence work for the terror networks and also provide logistics support whenever required, the sources said.

However, the problem is that these illegal immigrants pass of as natives of West Bengal and the law and order police have no knowledge about the larger problem of the illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, the officer said.

Former Hyderabad police c ommissioner, Balwinder Singh, who worked as the special director of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)told this correspondent that thousands of Bangladeshis were illegally living in Hyderabad.

The city has many vital defense establishments including the Defense Research and Development Laboratory and the terror outfits always keep an eye on these areas. A police officer, who worked as the Joint Commissioner of Special Branch in Hyderabad said on condition of anonymity that the illegal immigrants were legitimising themselves by securing identity cards such as Aadhaar, ration and voter identity cards.

However, senior police officers express their inability to tackle the issue with iron hand given the lapses in the laws that deal with illegal immigrants of Bangladesh and also because of political interference.
