Siddipet: Collector P Venkatrama Reddy during Prajavani grievance day, held at Siddipet RDO’s office on Monday, assured immediate help to a HIV infected victim who sought the Collector’s help in the form of employment.

B Mallamma (name changed), was diagnosed positive for HIV virus five years ago. Her husband died with AIDS five years before she was diagnosed. She has a 13-year-old son. In 2012, she set up a vegetable store in her village, but after villagers came to know about her illness, they stopped buying from her.

Having abandoned her store, she worked occasionally for landlords as a farm labourer, as she was not issued a job card despite putting in several requests as NREGS fields assistant. Being landless and without a shelter, she had been surviving with whatever little she could earn along with her son.

Later, she approached the District Collector to accommodate her in some government school as a sweeper, cook, attendant or whichever could suit her. The Collector immediately asked the MPDO of her mandal to issue her a job card and assured her a job in some school once the schools reopen for the next academic year.

He also asked her to visit the Collectorate along with her son and assured he would do everything in his capacity to offer good quality education to her son in some social welfare school.
