Hyderabad: The leaders of CPI (M) along with the residents of Lower Tank Bund staged a protest at the Pollution Control Board (PCB) head office on Wednesday demanding that the Hyderabad Metro Water Works and Sewerage Board stop the chemical pipeline flowing into Hussainsagar nala.

The CPI (M) city secretary M Srinivas said the chemical effluents from Jeedimetla and Patancheru treatment plants were let into the Hussainsagar nala which is affecting the health of the residents.

He said when they brought the issue to the notice of the Pollution Control Board and asked them to take necessary measures to prevent mixing of chemical effluents with Hussainsagar water, the PCB feigned ignorance.

Joint chief environment officer of PCB, Nagesh said it was for the first time that this issue has been brought to the notice of the head office and it would verify the complaint and issue notices to the factories resorting to such practices.

He further said during the last one week, the PCB had given closer order to six industries which were found to be violating the rules and were releasing industrial effluents without treating them properly.
