Hyderabad: The proposed Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) under toll management system taken up by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) would be delayed. The ETC at 23 toll plazas on Outer Ring Road (ORR) proposed by HMDA will start by this year end. Commuters can save time by using ETC on ORR as it will save time and cut down the delay at toll plaza.
ETC would be adopted at toll plazas including, Patancheru, Saragudem, Medchal, Shamirpet, Keesara, Ghatkesar, Pedda Amberpet, Bongulur, Nanalramguda toll barrier. The HMDA will collect toll on both entry and exit points in these areas.
But, out of five toll gates at Shamshabad, the toll would be collected through ETC only at gate two and five at entry point and at exit point it will be collected manually. At toll gates one, three, and four ETC will be available only at exit points.
When asked about the same, a senior HMDA official said there are 180 toll lanes out of which 157 toll lanes have manual Touch and Go system, where as other 23 lanes will have Electronic Toll Collection.
He said ETC on ORR is used to cut down the delay on the toll lanes by collecting toll electronically. The 157 toll lanes will be in operation by July and the 23 toll lanes with ETC will be started by the year end.
“The 23 toll lanes with ETC on ORR will be started by year end as we still have to get approval from the government on which system to be taken up for ETC,” official said.
Meanwhile, the commuter will have to purchase a smart card and get registered. As the vehicle passes by the toll plaza, system will scan the registered number and the amount will be deducted from the card
