Hyderabad: The mystery surrounding Poornima Sai, a class X student of Bachupally who had gone missing since June 7, has been cleared with the police tracing the girl in Mumbai. A special team of officers along with the parents of the girl have left for Mumbai and would be bringing her back to Hyderabad on Monday evening. According to the police, Poornima was found near Dadar. She is staying in Dongari Balsudhar Gruh.

She is suspected to have gone to Mumbai with an intention of joining films. She changed her name from Poornima Sai to Anika Sri and told Balsudhar Gruh that she was an orphan.

She mentioned her address as Sai Ashram, Hyderabad. This case posed a major challenge to the city police. After booking a missing case, the police formed about 14 teams to trace her but even after over 40 days they could not get any clue. They had sent teams to Visakhapatnam, Yanam, Shirdi and Chennai.

When they could not find any trace of her, they gave information to the Mumbai police. The police recently converted the missing case as kidnap case.

Poornima, who is a student of Bhashyam school in the city’s Nizampet area, was first suspected to have left the house due to pressure from the school and her parents. But later it was found that she was above average student.

She had even deactivated all her social media accounts and deleted Whatsapp and Instagram history a few days before she went missing. Even her classmates could not give any clue. The police on Sunday said that an NGO recognised Poornima staying in the Ashram and informed the police.

The Mumbai police after verifying the girl with the help of CCTV footage informed the Kukatpally police. Talking to The Hans India over phone, her father said that they were happy that the whereabouts of their daughter have been found. He said, “Please don’t ask us anything more. We are going to Mumbai along with police team,” they said. Asked if she had ever been to Mumbai, her father said they had been to Shirdi many times but not to Mumbai.
