Chandravadan informed that the Excise Department has so far arrested 15 persons in connection with possession and sale of certain high-end narcotics like LSD, MDMA and Cocaine. “Investigation into the matter is currently on and has revealed certain disturbing facts involving student community in particular. You would agree that prevention of substance abuse is of prime importance and therefore, I request you to initiate the certain steps pertaining to your department,” he said in his letter sent to different officials including Special Chief Secretary (Higher Education) Ranjeev R. Acharya, Commissioners of School, Intermediate and Collegiate Education and Director of Technical Education.

The Excise Commissioner asked them to inform the colleges and their establishments to 'sensitise' their lecturers and students about the issue of substance abuse. “It would be good, if the areas in the vicinity of the college premises are monitored, especially nearby shops, addaas, etc.; Easy availability of cash/debit (or) credit cards with college students may be monitored; Drug and Substance abuse issues may be highlighted by inviting specialists & counselors to address the student and necessary Student & Lecturer Committees may be constituted to grapple with the Substance Abuse in the institutions on the lines of Anti-Ragging.

Chandravadan said that all the concerned educational institutions / managements may be directed to initiate necessary steps on a campaign mode.
