Minister for IT and Municipal Administration K T Rama Rao (KTR) laid the foundation stone for the Urban Mission Bhagiratha scheme launched by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) at Kompally in the Qutubullahpurmandal here on Wednesday.

Hyderabad: Minister for IT and Municipal Administration K T Rama Rao (KTR) laid the foundation stone for the Urban Mission Bhagiratha scheme launched by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) at Kompally in the Qutubullahpurmandal here on Wednesday.

Under the Urban Mission Bhagiratha scheme, households in 183 villages beyond the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits and within the Outer Ring Road (ORR) limits will be provided with individual water connections.

While addressing the gathering, KTR, who also was the chief guest on the occasion,said another scheme would be taken up for discussions among the officials for a solution to the water crisis soon. He congratulated the Water Board Managing Director M Dana Kishore and the entire team for running such a large project with such a short deadline. Furthermore, he said that the project aimed to provide 135 litres of water every day to individual households of the Rangareddy, Sangareddy and Medchal districts. “The TRS aims to provide basic amenities to every individual” he said.

Qutubullapur MLA K P Vivekananda, in his speech, said such a project wastaken up to provide door-to-door water connections and it was being initiated for the first time in the country on such a large scale. He further urged the State government to provide water connections to the apartment ventures in the area too. “A large population has moved towards the outskirts into these ventures where water connections are poor”, he said.

With a one-year deadline as the target, the HMWS&SB aims to provide door-to-door water connections to every household in the mandals which include Saroornagar, Maheshwaram, Rajendranagar, Shamshabad, Hayathnagar, Ibrahimpatnam, Ghatkesar, Keesara, Shameerpet, Medchal, Qutubullapur, Patancheru and Ramchandrapuram, with a total 412 reservoirs constructed to store 44.7 million litres of water. The tender for this project was approved on June 17 and the agreement was signed on July 9.
