Hyderabad: Heavy rainfall during the 48 hours has badly hit the normal life in several areas of Greater Hyderabad.

Heavy rains, which started on Friday evening, continued till early hours on Saturday inundating of several low-lying areas and major roads. While West Zone received 12.80 cm of rainfall, it was 9 cm in Central and East Zone and 8 cm in South Zone. The GHMC has pressed 121 Monsoon Teams, 50 static teams and 19 Central Emergency Teams to deal with the situation. At least 65 trees and five electric poles were uprooted and several transformers became dysfunctional causing disruption in power supply in several areas. The GHMC received 95 complaints through Emergency Number 100.

GHMC Deputy Mayor Baba Fasiuddin, Commissioner Dr. B. Janardhan Reddy and other senior officials visited the affected areas and monitored relief operations. Food packets were also distributed in Deepakshi Nagar, Madinaguda and other low lying areas. The rainfall has also caused heavy damage to city roads.

GHMC Commissioner Janardhan Reddy on Saturday convened an emergency meeting the GHMC office and reviewed the situation. Stating that the Indian Meteorological Department has issued a warning that heavy rains might continue for three more days, he directed the entire GHMC staff to be on alert.
