HC lifts stay on R&R package; Govt can go ahead with LA

Hyderabad: The High Court at Hyderabad has lifted the interim stay it had granted earlier on implementation of Rehabilitation and Resettlement package for land losers under Gouravelli Reservoir in Karimnagar district.

It has directed the Revenue authorities to pay compensation to eligible land losers. Justice A Ramalingeswar Rao gave these directions on Tuesday while hearing the Vacate Stay petition filed by the Telangana State government.

Special Government Pleader S Sharat submitted to the Court that only a handful of people were trying to obstruct the package being offered by the government for R&R due to political reasons.

He also submitted that some of the petitioners in the present Writ petition did not even lose any land and were not eligible for any R&R benefits.

The judge directed the counsel for the petitioner B Rachna Reddy to submit the details of each petitioner’s land holding and the extent of land lost under the reservoir project and their entitlement for benefits.

He adjourned the case to three weeks after lifting the earlier interim stay order.
