Hyderabad: Smart cards and mini buses would be introduced following the inauguration of Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) Project to ease commuting via public transport, said Minister for IT, Municipal Administration and Urban Development K T Rama Rao here on Thursday. He said that the country’s biggest Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project has its own reasons for the delay when compared to other smaller metro rail projects in the country.

During his inspection of the completed works of Oliphenta Bridge in Secunderabad, KTR lauded the efforts put by the metro rail workers as they were inching closer to the inauguration date. KTR said that mini-buses with a seating capacity of 15-20 passengers, would be introduced soon at the nearby colonies from the metro rail stations to ease the journey and make it more comfortable for the passengers of Hyderabad Metro Rail.

Hence, smart cards would also be introduced which were to link Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC), Multi-Mode Transport System (MMTS) and Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR). Plans were on the anvil to connect private cab services such as Uber, Ola, etc, the Minister added.

Talking about the allegation put against the HMRL for the delays, KTR responded by saying that a project of this magnitude was bound to face delays as the works involved were of a gigantic scale.

“Other States hardly had stretches of 10-12 km for inauguration, whereas we are going to inaugurate a metro rail stretch connecting the two ends of the city”, he added.

In his speech, L&T HMRL Project Director, MP Naidu said “It is a matter of great pride for us to set the benchmark, pioneering a new idea and devising construction techniques while implementing mega projects like Hyderabad Metro Rail. The LTMRHL team has proved once again its mettle and capability in renovating structures like Oliphenta Bridge.”

Later, KTR along with HMRL managing director N V S Reddy got on the tracks for inspection purpose.
