Hyderabad: The RTA offices in the State are falling short of stationery due to which they are unable to issue fitness certificates, permits, and other documents for the past four months. The motorists are given printouts on white sheets which have no value and are as good as a photocopy.
According to the sources, many RTA offices in the State have not received stationery supplies. The stationery should be given by the Transport Commissioner, but the department has not supplied the required material for the past four months. The officials are giving printouts on white sheets which have no value and are liable for penalty with no other option available.
As per RTA norms, the documents related to permits, vehicle transfers, hypothecation transfer etc should be given on prescribed paper, which will be pink in colour and with the letterhead bearing Telangana State government emblem. The motorists are getting affected due to this problem. They pointed out that the authorities are collecting Rs 400 as service charge, but are asking them to make arrangements for the printouts.
Some of the lorry owners said that when they brought the matter to the notice of check post officials, they contacted the authorities at the head office in the city and are then letting the drivers go, which has become time consuming.
The department had recently delayed the issue of RC books, driving licences etc, which was reported in The Hans India and the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) had to intervene and direct the officials to clear the pending applications immediately. The department officials said they would dispose of all pending applications within a week. However, sources said that there was still a delay of over a month.
Auto and Motors Welfare Association General Secretary M Dayanand said the problem was with the lorry owners and the auto rickshaw drivers. “If a lorry is caught beyond the border of the State, the printout on a white paper will have no legality. The authorities would impose penalty and may also seize the vehicle for no fault of theirs,” said Dayanand.
