The University Foreign Relations Office, Osmania University celebrated its X Annual Graduation Ceremony for those foreign students graduating during 2016-17 on Wednesday.
Hyderabad : The University Foreign Relations Office, Osmania University celebrated its X Annual Graduation Ceremony for those foreign students graduating during 2016-17 on Wednesday.
The venue was the OU Centre for International Programmes, Osmania University. A total of 97 foreign students from different countries who completed their P.G. and U.G. Courses from the Campus and Constituent Colleges of Osmania University received their degrees through the hands of the Chief Guest, Mohammad Haghbin Ghomi, Consul General, Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Hyderabad and Prof. S. Ramachandram, Vice-Chancellor, Osmania University who presided over the ceremony. The dignitaries who were present on the occasion included Prof. T. Krishna Rao, the Officer on Special Duty to the Vice-Chancellor, Osmania University, Prof. M. Kumar, the Controller of Examinations, Osmania University, the Additional Controllers of Examination Branch, Osmania University, Deans of various Faculties and Principals of Campus Colleges.
Mohammad Haghbin Ghomi, while addressing the graduating foreign students, informed them that after the Islamic revolution in many middle East countries including Iran, the knowledge has been recognized as part of Culture and Civilization. He quoted the famous Iranian poet Firdous who said that knowledge leads to empowerment. He also mentioned that about 7000 Iranian students are studying various courses in India and that most of them are studying in South India.
In his Presidential address, Prof. Ramachandram called upon the graduating foreign students to equip themselves with the required knowledge and skill to face international challenges. He also reminded them that during the LPG era, not only the persons are moving across the national borders but also the companies which needed international students. He wanted the graduating foreign students to be Brand Ambassadors of Osmania University and India. He made a special mention of the contribution of International students in performing in the Cultural programmes during the inauguration of Centenary Celebrations and also during the visit of the NAAC Committee and placed on record his appreciation for them in making the University truly international.
Prof. G.B. Reddy has welcomed the invitees and submitted the Annual Report of UFRO, OU. In his report, Prof. G.B. Reddy, traced the establishment of UFRO in 1999 with 71 foreign students and its ever increasing intake since then, which stands at about 4000 students cumulatively during the present academic year. He informed that a total of 1119 foreign students have joined this year in different courses under Osmania University. Prof. P. Rajasekhar, the Joint Director of UFRO, OU proposed Vote of Thanks.
