Hyderabad : Telangana Congress Legislature Party leader K. Jana Reddy on Wednesday alleged that the 'Rythu Bandhu' scheme, launched by the State Government to provide investment support of Rs. 4,000 per acre per crop, was not helping the small farmers.

Addressing a press conference at media centre in Assembly premises, Jana Reddy said that the 'Rythu Bandhu' was benefitting only the rich farmers who are holding large chunks of land. He said small farmers were not getting any benefits from it. Similarly, he condemned the TRS Government for not excluding the tenant farmers from the scheme. He said those holding barren lands should be given the assistance. He demanded that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao convene an all party meeting to discuss the issue and take corrective measures. However, he said that the Congress party welcomes the move of extending financial support to farmers.

Jana Reddy also condemned the statement of film critic Katti Mahesh. He said that the statement was highly provocative and could incite communal tension. He demanded that the government take stern action against Mahesh and treat him the way terrorists and Maoists are treated. He said steps should also be taken to prevent spread of hate comments on social media.

The Congress leader also expressed shock over the Warangal fire accident which claimed many lives. He said adequate compensation should be paid to the families of victims and those injured should be treated in good hospitals at free of cost.
