The possible entry of Telangana Rashtra Samithi TRS Rajya Sabha member D Srinivas into the Congress is hindered by his followers demands as they want his son to join the Grand Old Party
Hyderabad: The possible entry of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Rajya Sabha member D Srinivas into the Congress is hindered by his followers’ demands as they want his son to join the Grand Old Party.
In the meetings being held with followers, Srinivas has been told to take his son into the Congress along with him if he is intending to join it. They said that if father and son remain in two different parties, the objective of joining the Congress could not be achieved.
According to sources, Srinivas is seriously thinking to return to his home party and is discussing the pros and cons with his followers. He may take some more time to take a decision on joining the Congress.
Ever since the reports of Srinivas’s resentment against the TRS leadership have surfaced, speculations are rife on his possible entry into the Congress. However, Srinivas did not deny them so far lending credibility to them.
A senior leader of the Congress said that they were also keen on admitting him into the party as this would deal a blow to the ruling TRS. Srinivas entry into the Congress would strengthen the party’s hold among the backward classes.
The leader said that though Srinivas wants to leave the ruling party, it was not ready to lose him. The TRS leadership is deliberately delaying action on him on the complaints made by Nizamabad MP K Kavitha.
He said that Srinivas may wait for some more time to know the attitude of TRS leadership towards him before taking a decision on his political future. The leader said that Congress was not making any initiatives to force him to leave TRS.
Senior leaders of All India Congress Committee (AICC) felt that Srinivas has been given enough importance in the Congress. If he had stayed in the Congress, he would have been made the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president. A senior leader commented, “We have carried him on our shoulders for forty years. But he was unable to wait even for two years.”
Meanwhile, during his discussions with the followers, Srinivas has been told to take his son along with him into the Congress if the MP wants to join the Congress.
His younger son Aravind is now in Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and he has been actively working in it. He is aspiring for the ticket from the BJP to contest from Nizamabad Lok Sabha constituency in the next elections.
According to sources he is not keen on leaving the saffron party and join the Congress. This made matters complicated for Srinivas as he could not force his son to join the Congress.
