Kothagudem: The TRS leaders in the district are happy lot as the party supremo and Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has reposed faith in the sitting MLAs by announcing their names on the list of candidate released on Thursday.
Expressing his happiness for including his name on the list of candidates, Kothagudem MLA Jalgam Venkat Rao said, “special thanks to the TRS party chief and Chief Minister K.Chandra Sekhar Rao for giving the opportunity again. The developmental schemes of the government will win the seat definitely.”
Echoing the same feelings, another candidate from Pinapaka constituency Payam Venkateswara Rao said,” the welfare schemes of the TRS government will play key role in win of the party in the elections.” Aswarao pet MLA Tati Venkateswarlu also thanked the Chief Minister for giving her opportunity.
It is worth mentioning here that Bhadradri- Kothagudem district is located in the Agency area of the State. It has five Assembly seats but there are no Parliament seats in the district. The district had merged two Parliament constituencies-- Khammam and Mahabubhad. In those Parliament segments, only one general Assembly seat that is Kothagudem is retained by the district.
Out of five Assembly seats of the district, four are reserved for the Schedule Tribes (ST). These Assembly segments are Bhadrachalam, Pinapaka, Aswarao Pet, and Yellandhu.
In 2014 elections, Telangana Rashtra Samith had won only one seat, that is Kothagudem. Three seats were won by the YSRCP. But all the YSRCP MLAs later joined the TRS. This way the ruling party has four out of five seats. The CPM had one seat in Bhadrachalam Assembly segment in 2014 election.
Here in the district, political parties--TRS, Congress, TDP, CPM and CPI-- have their own dedicated votebanks at the village and district level. Even CPI(ML) also has its votebank in some villages. Since the Assembly has been dissolved by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and election bugle has been sounded, all the political parties are in the election mode.
The TRS party is concentrating on the Bhadrachalm Assembly constituency. The CPM had won the seat in 2014 election. Since the ruling party is making inroads in all the tribal villages and the party want to snatch the seat away from CPM, it has announced a well-known tribal personality Dr.Tellam Venkat Rao as its candidate for the Assembly election. Tellam had contested in 2014 election on the YSRCP ticket but lost the election.
