Kukatpally: The residents of Dharmareddy Colony find it difficult nowadays to come out of their houses due to stray dog menace. Children are afraid to go out on roads to play as packs of dogs roam about freely on the streets of the colony. This problem is even more acute in the evening hours. There were too many instances of two-wheeler accidents that occur when bikers try to escape from dog attacks. Several dogs are seen beside newly constructed Rhythu Bazaar where waste is being dumped. Many instances of dog attacks and bites were reported from this area.

Despite several complaints to the authorities concerned, the problem was not addressed on permanent basis, residents lamented. After receiving complaints, authorities generally send dog catchers to catch dogs, sterilize dogs and release them back to the same colonies or neighboring colonies, instead of leaving them somewhere on city outskirts. As a result, residents continue to suffer from dog menace.

Residents of the colony demanded authorities concerned to respond to the complaints and take necessary action to address the issue. Recently, it was reported that some persons plying on Nizampet road in Kukatpally area were attacked by dogs and were critically injured.
