Hyderabad: Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS) is in a bind over alliance with TTDP for forthcoming elections. Although Telugu Desam camp has reached out to TJS chief Prof Kodandaram over the last few days, no progress has been achieved as far as alliance is concerned. While Congress, Telugu Desam and CPI have held a series of talks, TJS is still non-committal thus far.

While Kodandaram has stated that TJS is ready to join hands with like-minded parties to end the autocratic rule of K Chandrashekar Rao, he has been non-committal on this issue. The newest entrant to state politics is unable to take a call on joining hands with Telugu Desam due to divergent views within the party ranks. Majority of TJS leaders have expressed their reservations for truck with TDP as they are worried it may send wrong signals to people of the state.

Prof Kodandaram has been very vocal in criticising AP Chief Minister and TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu on umpteen occasions in the past during agitation days and after formation of Telangana on several issues, including bifurcation-related matters. Now joining hands with the same party would might give TRS a chance to fault TJS and its ideologies and political opportunism.

Also, TJS functionaries feel TDP is almost dead and buried in Telangana and is not a reckoning force any more. Leaders say what is the need to include such a party in alliance and give a fresh lease of life to it. They also are worried of interference by Andhra unit of TDP in Telangana affairs if their party gets dozen or more legislators in Assembly.

Another view expressed by few others is the reported assurance by TDP national president to give financial assistance to party candidates in Telangana elections. In case of joining hands, TJS candidates might also get benefitted to meet election expenses is the opinion of some others.

Also, TDP is keen on alliance with TJS as it feels having Kodandaram as the face of alliance would give their candidates a good chance of taking on TRS candidates wherever they are offered tickets. Sources stated that Naidu was very keen on poll pact with TJS and gave clear instructions to top brass to leave no stone unturned to convince Prof Kodandaram.

It is a well-known fact that Kodandaram enjoys popularity and support of Telangana population as much as K Chandrashekar Rao for formation of Telangana state. Tying up with TJS will improve TDP's winning chances instead of going alone which may not even guarantee deposits, is the TDP view, according to TJS leaders.

Meanwhile, TJS leaders say they have put the ball in Kodandaram court to take a final call on poll tie-up with Telugu Desam. “We have explained our individual views and asked him to take any decision, which everyone will abide by without any dissent,” they said.
